EnviroTREC was pleased to support the sixth annual Manitoba Materials Conference which was held on May 10, 2016 at the University of Manitoba – Engineering and Information Technology Complex.

The conference hosted over 150 attendees, with speakers such as Drs Ravi Sidhu, Kevin mcEleney, and Abdul Kahn from MIM as well as Shaun Ryman (Magellan Aerospace), Geoff Hicks (Genetics/Regenerative Medicine, U of M), and David Levin (Biosystems Engineering, U of M).

At the end of the conference the student posters were adjudicated followed by a series of presentations from the top rated posters. Cash awards were made to 13 students, ranging from undergraduate, through to post-doc fellows. Congratulations to all the winners!


The event showcased the strength and vitality of materials research on campus and interest from partners, present and future. It was hosted by Manitoba Institute of Materials (MIM) and featured tours of their recently renovated facilities. This versatile facility includes several types of scanning electron microscopes, an x-ray photoelectron spectrometer, a sample prep area and a workshop area.
