Mr. Simpson has broad national and international experience in defining and implementing aerospace research and development programs and partnerships. His background includes service with the Canadian Air Force and over 25 years with the National Research Council where his appointments included Director of the Structures, Materials and Propulsion Laboratory, Director General of the Institute for Aerospace Research and a term as Vice President of Technology and Industry Support.
EnviroTREC is a not-for-profit research consortium of industry, NRC and Academia with the aim of stimulating collaborative research in specific areas of gas turbine technologies. EnviroTREC works closely with the GLACIER Facility in Thompson, Manitoba. The Thompson facility is the most modern engine icing certification facility in the world capable of testing engines with fan diameters up to 140 inches and capable of producing up to 150,000 pounds of thrust.
